President and Owner, Concrete Texturing
Tim is married to his college sweetheart and business partner, Danette Matthews. Together they have 3 adult children and 8 grandchildren. Tim from an early age played competitive sports excelling in basketball and football. While playing sports Tim developed the mind-set that every day is a day to improve, and this a core element in his management of Concrete Texturing. “Every year I have evaluated Concrete Texturing and have sets goals to improve in at least one area. I don’t ever want to become static with my personal growth or the growth of my company. In more years thannot, those improvements have made a significant impact on improving our service to our clients and our client relationships.”
After playing football and basketball in college Tim moved to Tucson, Arizona to continue with his education, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Arizona in 1988. Tim went on to obtain his master’s degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix in 1993.
Professional Experience
Tim’s experiences and education helped him navigate the challenges of starting and growing two successful start-up organizations: Signal Gates and Concrete Texturing. Tim started both businesses with limited experience in the industry, but his abilities to learn on the fly and form structure from chaos helped him create enduring products and companies.
Before starting Concrete Texturing, Tim developed his entrepreneurial skills as a minority owner of Signal Gates. Signal Gates’ primary purpose was to sell and distribute electronic gate systems to dealers nationwide and install electronic gate systems in Central and Southern Arizona.
Signal Gates’ primary customers were homeowners, contractors, developers, apartment complexes, gate companies, ranchers, and small businesses. His role with Signal Gates included sales, distribution to dealers, purchasing, customer service, and inventory control. The company grew rapidly, exceeding $1,000,000 in sales in its second year of business. In the later part of 1997 Tims old his share of the business to start Concrete Texturing.
The Beginning of Concrete Texturing
Once Tim learned about concrete overlay systems, he was fascinated by the process and products. After further research, he established Concrete Texturing in 1998. During his research and training, he learned the spray texture method from a company in Florida. They felt that this method was the only way to apply concrete coatings. However, his inquisitive nature spurred him to discover innovative application techniques, improving upon methods that the manufacturers promoted.
He quickly built a reputation for high-quality concrete installations far superior to what anyone else was offering. Customers loved his honesty, timeliness, and follow-through — uncommon traits among contractors. Referrals from customers became a big part of Concrete Texturing’s growth.

Tim has proven to be an effective leader and visionary for Concrete Texturing, creating an exceptional product delivered with integrity and high-quality service.
