The Challenge
The existing coating on Scot’s back patio was very dark, creating a heavy and unwelcoming atmosphere. Scot desired a lighter, more airy appearance to better complement the outdoor space. The primary challenge was to effectively cover the dark surface and achieve the desired bright finish.
The Solution
Day 1: Surface Preparation and Application
- Ground the existing surface to remove the old dark coating and ensure proper adhesion of new materials.
- Applied a new concrete overlay to create a fresh, smooth base for the finish.
Day 2: Staining and Sealing
- Used a Bone White base color stain to achieve a light and airy look.
- Added a very light Walnut/Grey highlight to enhance the texture and depth of the surface.
- Sealed the patio with a satin sealant to protect the finish while avoiding a matte or overly glossy appearance.
Result
Scot was thrilled with the transformation of his back patio. The new finish provided a light, refreshing look that perfectly aligned with his vision. The Bone White with light Walnut/Grey highlights created a bright and inviting space, and the satin sealant offered a subtle sheen without being too glossy.
Unique Comment
The choice of a satin sealant was essential for achieving the desired finish, as Scot specifically requested not to have a matte or high-gloss appearance.
